David DiFranco

Search the Midview record books, or look at the MAHOF plaques outside the Kubuski gym, and you will be hard-pressed to find a better athlete than David DiFranco. His exploits on the gridiron and on the hardwood are benchmarks that will forever make him one of Midview’s finest.

On the football field, David was a three-time letter winner as a devastating member of the Midview offensive and defensive lines. If football is truly “won and lost in the trenches” DiFranco proved that adage by anchoring the line on both sides (while also snagging catches as a tight end) as the Middies won the Lorain County Conference title his junior year, and advanced to the playoffs in both his junior and senior seasons. Midview racked up huge offensive numbers in those campaigns. For three straight years, he received all All-Conference, All-County and All-District honors, and he was an All-State selection his junior and senior years. Following his senior year, David was honored by being selected to play in the prestigious North-South All Star game.

DiFranco’s excellence was displayed on the basketball floor as well. He lettered at center for coach Troy DiFranco all four years at Midview. He was a two-time All-Conference, All-County, and All-District selection. Following his senior season, he was announced as the Division 1 Player of the Year, and as in football, he was an All-Ohio selection following his senior campaign. He was an absolute force in the paint, and his career statistics demonstrate that point. His numbers still rank at the top in Midview history. He is the third all-time Midview scorer at 1,052 points (trailing only fellow MAHOF members Anthony Stacey and Pat Rhyner), and he ranks as the all-time leading rebounder at Midview, with 759 boards.

DiFranco was a terrific performer for the Midview track team as well, earning three letters in the shot put and discus.

Following his career at Midview, David signed a Division 1 scholarship to play football at Miami of Ohio where he excelled at both guard and tackle, which garnered him All-MAC honors.
