Jim Couch

MAHOF Logo

Jim CouchJim Couch was an outstanding athlete at Elyria Catholic High School and the University of Dayton. He declined offers by the Pittsburgh Pirates as a pitcher to enter the University of Dayton to play baseball and golf. He was the number one golfer three years in a row in high school and college. He was inducted into the Elyria Catholic and Elyria Sports Halls of Fame.

It was in golf that Jim really made his mark. He was a legend in area golf circles. He won six Elyria city and five Lorain County championships. He won three Lorain County Tournament of champions crowns. Considered a ‘Top Ten’ amateur in the greater Cleveland area, he was The Oberlin Golf Club champion six times and was a seven time Elyria Country Club champion.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Jim Couch was considered one of the best domestic relations attorneys in the greater Cleveland area.

He was a member of the Elyria Board of Education in the 1980’s and the Midview Board in the 1990’s. He served as president for many of those years.

Jim Couch was devoted to the Midview School Community and its students. He was The Voice of Midview, as he was the public address announcer for football, basketball and volleyball games for twenty years. He had a crystal clear voice and presented the action without elaborating. There was no one more skillful than Jim. No one is more deserving to receive the Midview Athletic Hall of Fame’s Special Recognition award than Jim Couch.
