Bob Lynch
Grafton ’51

Bob Lynch - MAHOF Class of 2005“He was fluid and could and would drive to the basket against anyone and could shoot from anywhere on the floor with uncanny accuracy.” An observation offered by Bob Lynch’s former teammate Phil Kobb.

A three-year starter in basketball and baseball at Grafton High School, Bob was the only sophomore selected to play in the first annual March of Dimes All Star game, held at Oberlin College. It was in his senior year, however, when the smooth forward had a season to remember. The Comets approached the tournaments on a mission. They upset Brownhelm in their first game with Bob scoring 17, Clearview was the next upset victim with Bob leading the way with 15. Lorain St. Mary’s was next and he made 11 of 14 field goal attempts and converted 3 of 3 from the foul line for 25 points despite sitting out the last five minutes of the game in a 53-35 Grafton win. The Grafton season ended with a loss to Oberlin, but they made a statement with their upsets in tournament play. Bob closed out a memorable season in which he had three 25 point games and a huge game against Avon when he scored 40 points despite playing only half of the final quarter. He was voted First Team All Eastern League.

Bob Lynch scored 344 points his senior year and averaged 18 points per game. Bob was offered a full athletic scholarship to Western Reserve University, which he could not accept because of family illness.

Bob retired as a cartoonist for the Elyria Chronicle Telegram. He lives in LaGrange with his wife Janet. They have one son, three daughters and three grandchildren.

Welcome, Bob Lynch, into the Midview Athletic Hall of Fame
